Bamboo Systems

Bamboo reveals a sustainable and genuine option for construction in the tropics. The material features remarkable structural properties, allowing it to constitute all of the building elements.

The contemporary use of this natural resource around the tropical climates is undermined by social preconceptions of the developing countries. The environmental issues which feed the actual stigma were identified in this study.

Given the climatic necessity to protect bamboo from sunlight and rain for long lasting construction, this research explores the potential of environmental design with bamboo.
A methodology is proposed to make use of computational tools in order to optimise bamboo geometries to deliver not only, visual and thermal comfort, but also to engage the occupants with the environment through designed adaptive strategies.

Provided guidelines aim to define the range of freedom in which bamboo architects will be able to design while complying with the durability of structural elements.
